Money, Markets and Merit: Conversations about Lessius with Wim Decock

Date: Tuesday 27 October
Time: Coffee from 15:30, discussion from 16:00-18:00
Venue: Manor Road Building, Seminar Room A

Leonardus Lessius’ work is an example of the early-modern intersection of, and cross-fertilisation between, morality, law and economics in the late-scholastic tradition.  Speakers from law, history and theology will discuss Lessius’ rich thought, taking as our starting point Wim Decock’s recent Money, Markets and Merit (2025, Oxford University Press).   There will be short presentations from Annabel Brett, Colin Donnelly, Ciara Kennefick and Sarah Mortimer as well as Wim Decock, with open discussion and drinks afterwards.  The event forms part of the Legal History Forum and Oxford Political Thought programmes and all are welcome.
